4 Considerations When Renting Scissor Lifts

Scissor lifts are so diverse that one may end up with an inappropriate one if he or she doesn't have a set of guidelines that can help during the selection process. This article discusses some considerations that can help an inexperienced person to select the best scissor lift hire for his or her project.

Its Weight

You need to think about the weight of a scissor lift before you select it for hire. Some heavy scissor lifts can be very difficult to move manually from one location to another during your project. It may therefore be better for you to select a mobile scissor lift if your work requires a heavy scissor lift to handle the loads that will be placed upon it.

Platform Width

You need to think about the width of the platform from two perspectives. First, how wide do you require it to be in order to accommodate a worker or workers and the needed materials? Wider platforms are ideal because they allow the workers to have sufficient space as they do their work.

However, it is also important for you to think about platform width in terms of how easy it will be to get that lift through the doors and access ways around the jobsite. In this respect, narrower platforms have the advantage. How then can you balance these apparently conflicting interests?

Hire a scissor lift with an adjustable platform. In this way, you will be able to reduce the width of the platform as you move the lift through a narrow passage. That same platform can later be widened as work is about to commence.

Leg Height

It may also be advisable for you to select a scissor lift whose legs can be adjusted to suit the location where the lift is being used. For example, you can make the legs longer so that the scissor lift can be used in a place with immovable fixtures, such as elevated concrete bases for equipment.

Work Environment Risks

Are there any flammable substances within the environment where the scissor lift will be used? Select a lift that is best suited to such an environment. For example, select a pneumatic scissor lift in case the work environment is hazardous. Some hydraulic scissor lifts can also be used in hazardous environments.

The discussion above may not have covered all the aspects that you need to consider when you are hiring scissor lifts. Involve an expert so that you can receive sufficient technical assistance during the selection process. This will help you to avoid spending money on an unsuitable lift for your project.
